The Montauk Experiments

Legend:
Camp Hero is located right before the Montauk lighthouse in Eastern Long Island. Formerly a US government Air Force Base and even prior a coastal defense army base, it now sits unused and quiet as a state park, or does it? Like many urban legends it is difficult to prove many of the rumors and in this case a lot of the stories about the base come from conspiracy theorists. Despite the shaky basis behind the rumors they seem to still persist today. Perhaps there is some truth to it?

Hear our investigation of Camp Hero and a review of the Montauk Project video in the Long Island Oddities magazine issue #2. Click here.

Stories:
One of the most famous Camp Hero stories is that of the Montauk Boys. Supposedly boys from a local camp or boys without family were kidnapped and enrolled in a special training camp. They underwent massive brainwashing and conditioning and were trained to use the power of mind to do fantastic things. Some were trained to jump from planes and from tall buildings without the aid of parachutes by training their mind and body to react as if they were just jumping off of a stool. Some were used for mental telepathy purposes. One boy was used in the almost infamous Montauk Chair. It was a device that could use the brainwaves of a person with sufficient focus to bring an object into this reality, possibly from another dimension.

This leads us to the 4th dimensional creature that was supposedly summoned accidentally from the fourth dimension by the Montauk chair. It supposedly killed everyone in the room and was somehow imprisoned in the secret underground tunnels under Camp Hero. Preston Nichols fondly refers to this 4th dimensional creature as "Junior" in his video, the Montauk Project. One has to wonder how you can imprison a creature that exists on four dimensions, with three-dimensional walls. That would be like trying to keep a lion in a cage with one wall missing.

Other stories of Camp Hero involve secret underground bases where experiments in mind control still go on. The beginning of such experiments is rumored to be the Philadelphia Experiment. For those unfamiliar, the Philadelphia experiment was an effort to make a naval ship disappear and reappear using magnetic fields. According to legend, the ship did disappear and reappear, but the crew went mad and a good number of them were embedded in the metal of the ship on a molecular level. Of course those in power wanted to know why interdimensional travel like that would make men go insane and they began to do experiments with the mind. They found that thoughts were electrical signals and if you could just translate those signals you could read minds. It was not a far cry from that to sending signals to affect the thoughts of others.

Facts:
Camp Hero is now a public park, however their property title only gives them rights to anything above ground according to a park employee.

Inside the large radar tower from the first floor, you can see what looks like a flooded basement. The water comes almost up to the level of the first floor.

There are concrete caps of some kind all over the park possibly covering up underground entrances, however it is unknown what these are for and they may just be part of a sewer system.

Theere are actually land explosives. Last time I was there, I only saw two signs but it scared teh crap outta me. It said to not walk further into the woods because of the explosives. they were there from decades ago and not alls et off, so they might still be active. that place is still active. every time i explore with friends, someone randomly shows up out of no where! and there is a guard dog too! it's fuckin creepy over there. i wonder if they have surveillance cause they appear out of no wheree
