For
many years Suffolk County had four large state hospitals
practically right next to each other. They were the Kings
Park Psychiatric Center, Central Islip Psychiatric Center,
Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center and Edgewood State Hospital.
Each had its own infrastructure which included fire and
police stations, employee housing, warehouses, train stations,
power plants, and farms. Each was almost completely self
sufficient. Here you will see the abandoned ruins left from
