When this store was built, as Gertz's department store, it was cheered and celebrated by people in this neighborhood because it was the only department store nearby. It had a bridge over Manor Lane to connect it to the stores across the street, which was later the enclosed Gardiner Manor Mall. This was an awesome mall as it had all these really unique shops and a small town atmosphere where everyone kind of knew each other. Gertz later became Sterns and in its final months became Macy's. The mall is long gone but this abandoned department store remains for now.
