It wasn't to long ago when the aerospace industry
on Long Island was thriving. Grumman used to be a major employer
that many worked for. The Republic factories in Farmingdale
were once a part of this industry. As business dwindled it shut
its doors. For a while it was used as flea market. It is amazing
that in the abandoned structures one not only sees signs of
the flea market, but little left behinds from the aircraft-manufacturing
era as well, such as an old aircraft part sticker on a wall.
This
is one of the places where LI's version of "Rosie the Riveter"
worked during WWII, riveting airplane wings.
