Camp
Hero was once an US Air Force base charged with protecting the
east coast. It is the stuff that legends are made of, at least
as far as conspiracy theories go. It was the basis for the series
of books titled "The Montauk Project", which alleges
the base was used for time-space warping, mind control, and alien
encounters. Now it sits quietly as a State Park where it costs
$6 to enter. There are still some spots that are off limits (see
