This factory was originally built in Sag Harbor during the end of the whaling industry. After a shift in fuel use from blubber to fossil fuels the whaling industry began to shut down. With many men eager for work and some who had money to invest left over from the whaling days, Sag Harbor began to sprout many factories. Built in 1881, by the son in law of a whaler, it would become the largest factory in Sag Harbor. It was taken over by Bulova in 1936 and it remained open until 100 years after it was originally built. Pollutants found in the courtyard soil have kept it abandoned since. Now with trees growing into the bricks and decay all about, it lies in beauty.
